About JOHN R. SMITH Memorial Trophy

The John R. Smith Memorial Trophy was created as a memorial for an amazing man. John was an Alberta skydiver who was passionate about skydiving, competition, and photography. He was a National Team member as a videographer for both the Canopy Formation team, the Plaid Jackets as well as the 4-way team Tropical Fish. He became internationally known as an innovative photographer in 2006 when he introduced a new way of filming competitive canopy formation in the world of skydiving.

Upon his passing, John left CSPA with a generous donation to be directed towards future competitors. This donation will continue to support our National Team members for years to come. Alongside this support, the CSPA Competition and National Teams Committee opted to create this award in his memory.

The John R. Smith Memorial Trophy is awarded to a photographer or videographer who exemplifies the qualities of passion for skydiving and innovative photography. Although new to the team, there was no shortage of commitment, enthusiasm and passion from this year’s recipient.

On behalf of John R. Smith and his family, it gives me great pleasure to present this trophy, for the first time, to Steven Bittan.

Apropos du Trophé en mémoire de JOHN R. SMITH

Le trophée commémoratif John R. Smith a été créé pour commémorer un homme extraordinaire. John était un parachutiste de l'Alberta passionné de parachutisme, de compétition et de photographie. Il était membre de l'équipe nationale en tant que caméraman de l'équipe de formation sous voilure, des Plaid Jackets ainsi que de l'équipe VRà4 Tropical Fish. En 2006, il est devenu un caméraman innovant au niveau international en introduisant une nouvelle façon de filmer la formation sous voilure dans le monde du parachutisme.

À son décès, John a offert à l'ACPS un généreux don destiné aux futurs athlètes. Ce don continuera de soutenir les membres de notre équipe nationale pour les années à venir. En complèment à ce soutien, le comité des compétitions et équipes nationales de l’ACPS a choisi de créer ce prix à sa mémoire.

Le trophée commémoratif John R. Smith est décerné à un photographe ou à un caméraman illustrant les qualités de passion du parachutisme et de la photographie innovante. Bien que nouveau dans l’équipe, l’engagement, l’enthousiasme et la passion du récipient de cette année ont été exemplaire.

Au nom de John R. Smith et de sa famille, il me fait grand plaisir de présenter ce trophée, pour la première fois, à Steven Bittan.
